Plumber in Tampa, FL

Northern Plumbing Co. is a Tampa company, owner-run since 2020. Owner Jeremy Knipe is a master plumber who lives in Seminole Heights, so 1920s bungalows, cast iron drains and Tampa’s hard water aren’t new to us. Firm price before we start.

Our neighborhood, our work

The water heater in the photo above is a Navien gas tankless unit we mounted on the outside wall of a Tampa Bay home. Putting it outside frees up room indoors, which helps in older Tampa houses with tight mechanical spaces. See water heater replacement pricing.

Tampa is home for us. Northern Plumbing Co. is a proud sponsor of Seminole Elementary on North Central Avenue (look for our banner on the car rider loop). We are also a proud member of the Tampa Bay Chamber.

What Tampa homeowners call us for

Much of Tampa was built before 1970, and the plumbing shows it.

  • Cast iron and clay drains under 1920s–60s homes that scale up, crack and let in roots from the big live oaks
  • Galvanized supply pipe rusting from the inside: low pressure and brown water
  • Polybutylene, the gray plastic pipe in many homes built from the late 1970s to the mid 1990s
  • Slab leaks in copper lines under mid-century block homes
Water softener and filter tanks during a maintenance visit

Water softener and filter maintenance. Tampa’s hard city water makes regular service worth it.

Local notes

Plumbing in Tampa: what’s different here

Inside city limits, plumbing permits go through the City of Tampa, not Hillsborough County, and most homes are on City of Tampa water, which is hard. The oldest houses sit close to downtown, in Tampa Heights, Seminole Heights, Ybor City, Hyde Park and Davis Islands. West Tampa, Forest Hills and much of South Tampa filled in with concrete block homes in the 1950s and ’60s.

  • Century-old drains. Cast iron and clay lines cause most repeat backups in pre-war homes. We camera the line and show you the footage.
  • Flood-zone homes near the bay. Low-lying homes on Davis Islands and along Bayshore that are raised or rebuilt after storms need new supply and drain lines.
  • Hard water. Scale shortens the life of water heaters and fixtures, so we flush or descale during service and test your water for free.

FAQ

Tampa plumbing questions

Which parts of Tampa do you cover?

All of the city, from South Tampa, downtown and Ybor City to Seminole Heights, West Tampa, Westshore and New Tampa, plus Carrollwood, Town ’n’ Country and Temple Terrace.

My Tampa house was built before 1970. Should I replace the sewer line?

Not automatically. Start with a $349 camera inspection. Some old cast iron and clay lines only need descaling or a spot repair; others are past saving. We show you the footage and give you a firm price for each option.

How do I know if I have a slab leak?

Watch for a warm spot on the floor, running water when everything is off, or a sudden jump in your water bill. We find the leak first, then give you a firm price to repair it or reroute the line. Leak repairs start at $249.

Do I need a permit to replace a water heater in Tampa?

Yes. Inside city limits the permit comes from the City of Tampa; in unincorporated areas like Town ’n’ Country and Carrollwood it comes from Hillsborough County. We pull the permit and handle the inspection as part of the job.

What does a service visit cost?

The trip charge is $99, and it’s waived when you approve the repair. Members of our $150-a-year maintenance plan never pay it.
